Solar Credits and Rebates
RECS & Solar Credits Scheme
When you buy and install any sort of renewable energy system you are eligible for Renewable Energy Certificates (RECS). One REC is equal to one megawatt hour of power generated. The amount of RECS your eligible for depends on the size of your system. The value of a REC does fluctuate according to market value. You can cash in your RECS for an additional saving off the total cost of your system at the time of purchase. Or alternatively you can keep them for sale later, which can prove difficult and time consuming for the individual. Solar Winds Australia is a registered REC trader and can offer you the upfront discount at the time of purchase.
As of the 9th June 2009 the Federal Government’s new incentive to reduce the cost of Solar systems is called The Solar Credit’s Scheme. This new scheme replaces the Solar Homes and Communities Plan. Unlike SHCP this new scheme will be available to everybody including families with income over $100,000. Also businesses, schools and community buildings alike.
Under the new Solar Credits Scheme you will receive a 5x multiplier (depending where you live) on your RECS up to a maximum of 1.5kW system.(Which is 31 RECS x 5 x market value) systems larger than 1.5kW will continue to generate RECS but no multiplier will be added after the first 31 RECS.
